Emotional Scars

Proverbs 15:1

A gentle answer turns away wrath,
but a harsh word stirs up anger.

We talked about relationships tonight in Bible study and it really got me thinking. Proverbs 15:1 is talking about relationships and in any relationship (Acquaintance, Buddy or Companion) you need to stop before you talk (or interact with technology) and think: “What is this interaction going to do for our relationship?” Truth is though, from grade school all the way up into adulthood, most do not stop and think and a lot of them do not care what it does. It has become a “me” world.

Still emotional scars happen. They typically start at a young age. This isn’t going to be a happy go lucky post but I hope it reaches anyone out there who may need to hear this.

Growing up, I didn’t fit in. I was not cute. I was not funny. I was not an athlete. I wasn’t popular. I wasn’t a cool kid. I was depressed. I was sad. I just wanted to fit in and be loved and accepted. Most of the time though, when I put myself out there, I was rejected.

Rejection is never a fun thing but the older I got the better I was at pretending it didn’t bother me. I was called a lot of things while growing up. Lets be honest: Children can be some of the rudest, meanest, heartless people out there but they have to learn it from some place. I pray that my children are never a part of those mean people.

Rejection can leave scars though. Those emotional scars can cause other issues in life if you never deal with them. When is the right time to start dealing with them? I wish when I was younger I would have dealt with them at that time. Instead I fed my emotions or I stuffed them. I never wanted to talk about them with anyone. I just looked for ways to feel better and I always picked the wrong avenue to do it.

Words hurt, actions hurt, mocking hurts, lack of actions hurt, all of the laughter, and talking behind backs and cruelness leaves a mark, an emotional scar. And now it isn’t just in the school hallways or on notes being passed around, it is online, on Facebook, on phones, in texts, in snapchat, it’s out there for EVERYONE to see, the whole wide world; not just those who go to your school.

I want all of you who are rejected and made fun of to know that there is life out there after all of this. God made you. God loves you. I love you. Do not give up. Do not give in. You are beautiful just the way you are. You are unique. You are amazing. You are worth so much more than you know! Your smile, your kindness, your words have helped someone today!

To the world you may be just one person, but to one person you may be the world.

If isn’t always easy but I hope you know that you have worth. Process what you hear from others because it is NOT TRUE! Do not let those words form an opinion of yourself because those words are NOT TRUE!

Here are some of the oils I am starting to use to help me process and deal with the long standing emotional scars from my past!
